OPTICAL
(Virus Recordings | UK)

Optical is the pseudonym of Matt Quinn, a renowned drum and bass producer and DJ from England.

He is best known for his work with Ed Rush, fellow head of the Virus Recordings label, and as a pioneer of the techstep and neurofunk sound. His first single for Metalheadz, ‘To Shape the Future’/'Raging Calm’ (1997) and his collaborative material with Ed Rush, such as the Wormhole, album (1998) were archetypal developments in the style. The duo followed this debut album with The Creeps (2000) and The Original Doctor Shade (2003), as well as countless singles and remixes.

He also notably did most of the engineering and production work for Grooverider’s album Mysteries of Funk. In addition, he has produced solo, and released in collaboration with many artists, including Trace, Dom and Roland, Fierce, and his brother Matrix.

“DJ Grooverider still willingly pays tribute to his right hand man in the studio Matt Quinn, who engineered ‘Mysteries…’ and whose savage dance floor productions as Optical (for, among many others, Groove’s own label Prototype) have earned him a place in drum’n'bass’s premier division.”

Ed Rush & Optical continue to release incredible genre defining LP’s and since the success of their ‘Travel The Galaxy’ LP 2009 have been remixing and doing production work and are now knee deep in the forthcoming LP from Virus due out in 2013.

EMPRESS
(Empower Recordings | NYC)

Fate is a milestone to which all life is bound. Destiny, on the other hand, is a journey of perpetual self-discovery and purpose. Some are destined for humility, some for greatness. And life only truly begins when one’s destiny snaps into focus.

The day she became Empress, Christina stepped into her destiny: to rule. Not rule by force or fear, but by grace, harmony, and devotion. Her story is one of unfaltering dedication to the fulfillment of artistic vision.

Empress saw a seminal glimmer of purpose in 1994 when she attended her first rave. “From the first time I ever stepped into a club and felt that free, passionate energy, I knew I had to be involved,” she proclaimed. The next two years found her honing her DJ skills while she worked at Joey D’s Records (then the only electronic music store in Connecticut), and networked with local promoters and DJs on the Northeast coast.

Empress founded Empower Recordings in January 2011 to release “Alien Nation” her first single from the album. She coordinated various genres of bass heavy remixes of “Alien Nation”. Two Dubstep remixes; one from SST, another one from Optimus Gryme, a Drum and Bass one from GenR8 and a techno/electro one from Thrash that were distributed through Itunes, Beatport & Amazon. She then teamed up to create “Alien Nation’s” music video with director Eric Acosta, editor Dee Wassell and camera work and direction by Kermit Mercado and Gabriel Garcia.

Watch it here:

After doing shows with her band Empower in NYC, she decided that she wanted to focus solely on producing music & DJing again after the wear and tear of having and bankrolling a band in a city like NYC.

In 2013, Empress is gearing up to release the next single on Empower Recordings featuring her vocals and solo production on “Only Love” and “Faithful” in March. She is also set to release her next Empower Podcast, available through Itunes, Soundcloud and Youtube, while she’s exclusively playing at the World of Drum and Bass in Miami for WMC and continues to DJ shows all over the world, while working intently on her original production.

Sought after by promoters, artists, bands and fans worldwide, Empress continues to move crowds, grace studios and stereos across the globe everyday.

Ikon
(Beatdown Productions / Proper Sound | MA)

DJ IkoN, a western mass native that started his DJ career 8 years ago. IkoN has been involved in the electronic dance music community for well over a decade. Playing a dark Drum and Bass that is as diverse as it is heavy. IkoN has played all over the east coast from New England to Florida. IkoN is a talented all-around musician, not just a DJ, with a wide range of influence such as Noisia, Phace, Octane, DLR, Break, Optical, Audio, BTK, Wilkinson and many many more. IkoN looks to push the barriers in whatever he’s doing. Crisp breaks, heavy bass and powerful melodies are the staple of his sound, making him a firm favorite with anyone who has seen him live.

MICAH C.
(ACME Rhythms / Konkrete Jungle / Direct Drive / Knoxville Soundsystem | NYC)

Hailing from Tennessee, this southern sound-boy moved to NYC in 2011 to pursue his diverse affinity for bass music. Like many his age, in his early teens he was bitten by the bass bug while installing car audio as a hobby.  It wasn't until 2003 when he discovered Drum & Bass that the two came together.

Having DJ'ed and shared the stage with a variety of big names over the past decade, he is now focused on music more than ever.  Most recently, the production aspect. Teamed up with Ian M of FinePrint he is now producing high energy music under the moniker ACME Rhythms. Stay tuned for release info.

From smooth liquid rollers and heavy neurofunk, to drumstep & dubstep, of three things you can be certain: Micah's shows come complete with sustained bass, fresh exclusives, and signature turntablism.

ADRED
(Natural Selection | NYC)

Born Adam Baker, son of a musically talented father and artist mother he was destined to be a great musician. Growing up listening to David Bowie, Eric Clapton and Thomas Dolby shaped his love for music at a young age. At the age of 16 Adam first heard Drum and Bass at a rave and wanted to replicate the energy and excitement he witnessed first hand. It wasn’t until years later when he had the opportunity to express it first by DJing. At the age of 20, he bought his first set of turntables and a mixer. Quickly learning and understanding the techniques of mixing music, a year later he was given the opportunity to play out. He knew all along that he wanted to create his own music and that being a DJ wouldn’t be enough to set himself apart from rest of the world. Little did he know, that a chance meeting in a neighborhood record store would launch his career as a producer. He didn’t stop at Drum and Bass but ventured into Hip Hop, R&B, Techno, House and everything in between. He doesn’t believe in pigeonholing himself in one genre and always produces music by feeling and bpm. Currently he is working on multiple releases with Robert Manos in many different genres. Keep an eye out for him and these songs.

And on the mic:

MC T.R.A.C.
(B.B.E | NYC)

Hailing from Brooklyn N.Y., T.R.A.C. has been very involved in many different scenes in his music career. Struck by the bug at a very young age, music has always been one of the most influential things in his life. As an MC he knows how to rock a crowd, as a lyricist he can surely put words together in a fashion, but its the art of making music where T.R.A.C. excels. Not wanting to be seen as just a rapper, he wants to be respected as a vocalist/musician and MC.

Through out his musical journey, the New York native has touched on many different genres with Hip Hop effort. On his first '2000 feature with DJ ICUE “Next Level $hit” became an underground classic on Liquid Sky Records. The fusion of the 2 styles was seen as provocative at the time. Nonetheless, The experience of this had set the stage of what was to come in the future.

As a Konkrete Jungle resident and NYC scene supporter, T.R.A.C. has been seen performing with top tier Dj's and artist abroad. From NYC junglist Dj's like Odi, Dara, Soul Slinger, and LionDub to name a few, to overseas heavies like Jumpin Jack Frost, Dego (4hero), The Upbeats, Skream and within recent times was seen rocking the mic for the re-known Roni Size and the legendary DJ LTJ Bukem.

Back on the Hip Hop side of things, TRAC does what he considers “classic style Hip Hop. In love with mostly sampled sounds, he has teamed with the likes of UK legend Lewis Parker on a couple of occasions. From 2007's Boosey n Hawks entitled “Lewis Parkers' Home Grown Hip Hop” to Lp's more recent releases such as Dangerous Adventures.

In 2009, a friend handed him a copy of an album called Visioneers. A compilation of very well orchestrated covers that were done by UK (4hero) Legend Marc Mac. Being inspired from the album , T.R.A.C. went and searched for him via the internet. After a couple of conversations a new relationship was made firing the BK MC into new grounds. The tandem are 3 projects deep with music including his well received 2011 Omniverse/BBE debut album “The Network”. Marcs amazing soundscapes topped with T.R.A.C.'s vocals have been reviewed by critics on blogsites and magazines as “addictive” and “refreshing” to Hip Hop, garnishing 6stars in a Euro magazine(Oct OE4).

With a couple of feature spots to come in the future along with another upcoming over-viewed EP in the works his catalog keeps growing with quality music. Expect to hear and see more of this talented MC throughout the year. His goal remains the same. To Rule And Conquer.
