The West Coast is in the house on Friday 2nd as Turntables On The Hudson rock to the sounds of the City of Angels’ Eduardo Castillo & Wiseacre. Castillo’s music and influences largely stem from a South American and European upbringing with roots in Venezuela, Cuba, and NYC. He uses what he calls “a subtle ethnomusicologist’s approach to music” with a record collection that reads like a music history textbook. In fact his eclecticism is quite enticing encompassing into his compositions and DJ sets elements of soul, funk, electronic minimalism and jazz, along with the influences from the Middle East, South America and Afro-Cuban communities. Conversely born into the lovely environs of suburban lands lying to the East of Los Angeles, and raised on frozen food and the religious right, Eric Tucker, aka Wiseacre, currently finds himself happily free yet equally inspired by it all. Since 2003 he’s been throwing parties and hosting the infamous Funky In The Middle and Custom Sundaze events that regularly feature Cielo favorites Nickodemus, Louie Vega, Nappy G, Marques Wyatt and King Britt.
