Nickodemus has been a key element in the NYC club scene for over a decade. As a DJ and producer he explores the intersection of urban and world music with a peppering of jazz, hip-hop, folk, house and even dub. That same ethos transcends to his sets that are underscored with a message of peace, awareness and love for dance, and have been carried over to his Turntables on the Hudson parties, the latest of which returns to Cielo on Friday May 7th. Special guest on the night is Señorlobo from Lovemonk Records in Spain, whose motto is the highly appropriate, “Discos Buenos” (“Good Records”). The Madrid-based label mogul similarly embraces a plethora of dance sub-genres with broken beats, soulful house, and world beats a staple part of his DJ sets, while his imprint are equally lovers of vinyl and good music. “No matter what style, if we like a record and we have the means to release it, we will,” says Señorlobo who’s burgeoning imprint already has 100+ releases to their name by such international artists as Soul Vigilantes, Gecko Turner, Pepe Link, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Los Amigos Invisibles, Space Ranger, Sumo and the wonderfully named Phenomenal Handclap Band.
