“ H E Y Y A H”

By D’Anna & Khromozomes

Hailing from East Harlem, New York, D’ANNA (born Diana Perez) has always
been surrounded by music. As a child, she attended Music 13, a high school
focused on music education, where she learned to play the trumpet. She took
dance, art, drama, music theory and vocal classes while attending the Jose
Feliciano Performing Arts Junior High School and, ultimately, the Fiorello H.
LaGuardia Performing Arts High School. Most artists can provide a list of mentors that resemble an iPod playlist but, when asked who was her mentor, D’ANNA comments “My first mentor was my mom. No matter where we were or the song, she’d sing it with all her might [laughs] but
couldn’t sing a lick. She inspired me to sing without fear and with all my

D’ANNA always had an affinity for the music of Si Se, Erykah Badu,
Jill Scott, Amanda Miguel, Miles Davis and Argentinian sister-brother duo,
Pimpinela. She laughs, saying “My mom had every album ever made by Pimpinela, I
picked one out that I liked and played that over and over again, until the
grooves almost wore off.”

After joining the group “Mami” while attending college, she was
signed to a recording contract with Blackground Entertainment. During that
time, she worked with and performed alongside artist like Bryce Wilson, Kenny
Green, Barrio Boyzz, Color Me Badd, Pras Michel (of the critically-acclaimed
group, The Fugees) and Chico Debarge.

Under the tutelage of Jon Cutler, House Music DJ extraordinaire
and owner of the Distant Music label, D’ANNA released her first single “Alone”
under the pseudonym Luna. Under the newly-adopted name, she quickly gained
notoriety throughout the underground scene as the sultry voice of the New York City
streets. It was during this time that D’ANNA had a chance meeting with hip hop
producer, Khromozomes (born Ruvane Schwartz). D’ANNA and Khromozomes
collaborated on an EP, “We Present Us”. These songs would later appear in video
and television, most notably on NBC’s series “Life”.

In 1998, D’ANNA relocated to Hollywood, California to pursue
an acting career. She starred on “Alias”, “Justice”, “Strong Medicine” and “Drake
and Josh”, as well as numerous television commercials and voice-overs.

With nearly 3,000 miles between them, D’ANNA and Khromozomes
continue to collaborate on creative projects and are working on new material
for release in 2010.
